The 2026 Rise Family Camp
A free and accessible camp for families facing cancer to connect, explore, and find support together
June 6th and 7th at Camp Latona, Gambier Island, BC
What we Offer
The Rise Family Camp offers free and accessible day or weekend camp experiences designed to support young families navigating a parent’s cancer diagnosis. Our goal is simple: to create space for families to step away from the stress of illness and spend meaningful time together in nature.
Held at the beautiful Camp Latona on Gambier Island in British Columbia, the camp provides a welcoming and supportive environment where families can reconnect, relax, and enjoy moments of joy and adventure together.
A Day or Weekend to Reconnect
Families are invited to take part in a range of activities designed to nurture connection, laughter, and shared experience. The camp environment is relaxed, supportive, and welcoming for both parents and children.
Families can enjoy:
- Nature exploration and adventures (made accessible for all)
- Transportation to and from Camp Latona on beautiful Gambier Island by boat from Porteau Cove. BC
- Campfire sing-alongs and storytelling
- Shared meals and hearty, delicious meals
- Games and activities for children and parents
- Free counselling opportunities available
- Day or overnight experience options, depending on your needs and preferences
- Quality family time and memory-making experiences
- Time to relax, play, and connect with other families facing similar feats
- Medical and nursing staff on site
- Community with other families who understand the cancer journey
A Safe and Supportive Environment
We understand that families navigating cancer often have unique medical and emotional needs. Rise Family Camp is designed to ensure that families feel supported, comfortable, and cared for throughout their experience.
To support this, we provide:
- On-site medical and nursing staff available throughout the camp experience
- An environment designed to be accessible and accommodating for families with medical needs
- Optional counselling opportunities for parents, children, or families who may wish to access additional emotional support during their time at camp
Our goal is to create a space where families can feel safe to relax, knowing support is available if needed.
A Community That Understands
One of the most meaningful aspects of Rise Family Camp is the opportunity for families to meet others walking a similar path. Children can connect with peers who understand their experience, while parents can spend time with others navigating the challenges of illness and caregiving.
The camp environment encourages connection, compassion, and community, reminding families that they are not alone.
Free and Accessible
Rise Family Camp is offered free of charge so that families facing the financial and emotional burdens of illness can participate without additional stress. Our goal is to ensure every family has the opportunity to experience a day or weekend of connection, adventure, and togetherness.
Creating Meaningful Moments
When a family is navigating a serious illness, time together becomes especially meaningful. Rise Family Camp exists to create moments where families can laugh, explore, share meals, and gather around a campfire, simply enjoying being together. We offer a photographer on site who is passionate about capturing the moments.
Sometimes the greatest gift is simply the chance to make memories together today.
